  • 09/08/10--08:09: Why isn't my comment showing up? (chan 1568795)
  • There are a few reasons why your comment may not show up. The first and most common reason that it may not show up is because in order to serve the massive amount of  fans like you that visit TheBlaze.com, comments on articles are not updated in real-time. It may take up to 5 minutes for your comment to show up on the site (though usually less than that). Please do not re-submit the same comment.

The second reason your comment may not show up is if you post something that your fellow users deem offensive or inappropriate. In these circumstances, if enough people flag the comment, an administrator may choose to delete your comment. TheBlaze.com staff reserves the right to delete and/or moderate comments on the site at their discretion - there is no appeal process and your comment is gone forever.

In the first circumstance, your comment just takes a few minutes to show up on the article, but in the second, your comment was already displayed on the site and action was taken to remove it.

  • 09/08/10--08:29: I tried to sign in, but it says, "This email is already registered, please choose another one" (chan 1568795)
  • It looks like you may be on the wrong page. The sign in form only asks for a username and password, where as the sign up form asks for a username and an email address.

Click the link in the header that says "Sign In" and try using that page to sign in.

If you get this message while you're trying to register for the first time, someone may have registered your email address already for some reason. You can use the "Forgot Password" feature to recover your account.

  • 09/08/10--08:36: I registered for an account and never received my password (chan 1568795)
  • Our system generates a random password for all new users and emails it to them. That's why we request that you use a valid email when you sign up.

First thing to do is to check your spam folder in whatever email client you're using. Though we've taken measures to combat this, there's a possibility that it got incorrectly marked as spam. To prevent messages from TheBlaze.com from going into your spam folder in the future, add noreply@theblaze.com to your list of allowed senders.

If the message isn't in the spam folder, you can try and use the password reset feature to have a new password sent to you.

If you were trying to be sneaky and used a fake email address, the password reset obviously won't work because it tries to send you another email. In that case, open a support ticket with your registered username & the fake email address you used (if you remember) along with your real email address and we'll change it for you so you can go through the password reset process.

If you are sure you used your correct email address and still aren't receiving these emails, please open a help ticket and indicate your user name and email address and we will reset your password manually for you.

  • 09/08/10--22:10: Why doesn't the "Report Post" link appear on certain comments? (chan 1568795)
  • We take your reports of offensive and abusive comments seriously, but since we're a pretty small team right now, we're relying on you, the community, to help report comments to us that may be abusive, offensive, or outright derogatory.

You may have noticed the "Report Post" link next to almost every comment. This is where you can type a little note about why yout think the comment should be removed. In our administration area, we see these reports in a list that orders the comments from the most reported comment to the least, so our attention goes to the comments that a lot of people are reporting. From that screen we can do one of two things: approve the comment or delete the comment. Whenever we approve a comment, we obviously don't want more reports streaming in about that same comment, so the link is removed from that particular comment.

So next time you see a comment with that little link missing, it means that a staff member has reviewed the comment and approved it so we don't need any more reports about it.

  • 09/09/10--05:40: How do I add an avatar to my profile? (chan 1568795)
  • There are two ways that you can assign an avatar to your profile that displays when you comment on stories:

    1. Sign up for Gravatar ( http://www.gravatar.com ). Gravatar is a globally recognized avatar that will work lots of other places and thousands of other blogs across the internet. Make sure you use the same email address that you gave us when you signed up for TheBlaze.
    2. If you don't care about having an avatar that will work across multiple sites on the internet, you can upload your own image (jpg, gif, or png) in the user profile page once you're logged into TheBlaze ( http://www.theblaze.com/user/?action=profile ). This image will override your gravatar if you have one.
